Props for going far on tangents.

"Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence." - is pithy but only correct in very specific cases stigmatized by being used as the argument from ignorance, so I would avoid using it without showing it explicitly applies.

IIUC, In this case absence of evidence for earlier signs of behavioral modernity is probably *weak* evidence of absence.
